One of those five hour boat rides around Manhattan

(S1:E1) – Who can forget the time when Laura asked Jerry if they can take a boat ride around Manhattan? At the time, Jerry reluctantly said yes. He was still not sure if he and Laura were going to be a thing. “What’s a few hours on a boat,” he must have thought? Could be relaxing with my girl. The sights alone are worth the trip and what’s even being a little seasick if it means he is spending a day with a potential girlfriend. Well….nope, not this time. Jerry got the news that Laura was engaged AFTER he agreed to this cruise on the Hudson. The big question, did he still go?
I believe, although a beaten man, he still went on that vessel with the moocher. As he once said on a visit to Tor Eckman (a holistic healer) with George and Kramer (S2:E8) he’s there strictly for material. I would have to think that a five-hour boat trip would be teeming with material; especially when stuck with a women that’s engaged to someone else.
Now about this boat five-hour boat trip; I have an idea which one Laura was talking about. In fact, almost every New Yorker can guess this historic fleet of ships that are draped with the colors of the Italian flag. She was most likely talking about the Circle Line at Pier 83 on the West Side of Manhattan. Although she mentioned five hours, you can navigate the waters of New York in more like two and a half. They even have cruises for shorter trips depending on your interests. I would definitely look into one of these cruises if you are in town for a few days. You get a different perspective on NYC and how everything relates geographically. At one point you can turn 360 degrees and see The Empire State Building, Ellis Island, The Statue of Liberty, The Verrazano and Brooklyn Bridges as well as the Freedom Tower. Where else can you do that in NYC. Only in New York Harbor so why not do it on a historic cruise line.

One of my notable cruise memories was in the early 80s when the tour guide pointed out an area in the city where there was a restaurant that had the most expensive hamburger…$10.00. I laugh now but was befuddled at the time. Who would pay $10 for a burger? Times have changed my friend.
What did we learn from all this? Never promise a five (really two and a half) hour boat ride unless you really know the person you are going with. If you get stuck going on the Cruise, make sure it’s the Circle line company so at least you’ll know you can enjoy the experience and if you get tired of listening to your date, you can hear the tour guide pointing out more interesting things than an engaged teacher from Lansing.
Assignment: If you ever get the chance to take the Circle Line, I would love to see a photo of you on the deck with perhaps a note or something indicating you are “Not with Laura” (Click here for sample sign). If you have something else you can think of to show how you are having a better time than Jerry, feel free to show me. Maybe I will post the best ones here.
